Do I feel like eating, why yes, lets create something beautiful and nutritious. Not really, okay, it can wait a bit.
Need to go somewhere, is it important? Nah, let's just enjoy the quiet.
There has been a lot of that. We haven't really been in a hurry to do anything.
We were going to head north today, but changed our minds. Instead we went south, The Mines at Bonne Terre was waiting for us. Usually we go to natural caves, this one is completely man made. It was beautiful just the same.
Hard to believe that when we pulled into the parking lot, behind a fence in a residential area, that we would be finding such serene beauty. It looked like an old abandoned mining town as we cleared the fence. Very few people were there. It barely looked open. We'd just driven an hour to get there, we may as well stay.
After about 20 minutes the only employee showed up. He'd been down in the mine with the last group of guests. It was a bit different. We signed up just the same. And headed to the mule entry.
It was not nearly as breathtaking as the natural caverns, but it was unique and wonderful just the same. I hadn't been in a mine since I went to the salt mines in Germany as a kid. These were quite different.
After an hour in the mines we were definitely ready for some of the beautiful sunshine. I'd noticed the entry to the St. Francois State Park as we were heading to Bonne Terre and decided that would be the perfect place to enjoy our picnic lunch.
It was such a beautiful spot. Butterflies were flitting all around, a cardinal sat watching, waiting for us to be finished. You could see the remnants of damage caused by the recent high waters, broken branches and river debris where it shouldn't be. The flowers and trees had bounced back and were beautiful moving in the gentle breeze.
Our picnic was so peaceful. We were the only ones there. Time together. We don't ever seem to have enough of it.
A beautiful ride through the park and it was time to head back to the house.
We had tools to gather, a game plan needed made. Tomorrow will find us heading north, we are going to try our luck at digging for geodes up north. Heck I might even get to add Iowa to the list of states that I have visited. It's so close, but it's been missing from the list.
I am enjoying this staycation. So many little things that we never seem to make time for, so many memories to be made with the love of my life!
